** Cancelled due to weather** Clouds blocking the stars, and high winds that make tripods unsteady are the reason this is cancelled. Maybe we'll have better luck next time. Take advantage of this dark sky location with very little light pollution to photograph the stars. This is a guided tour to the Avonlea Badlands in the dark. Bring a flashlight or head lamp (preferred), tripod, and camera capable of long exposures. You must be able to carry your gear 2km over uneven terrain. Tour lasts about 2 hours. Come to our annual general meeting to see what is going on at the museum. Stay to watch Adam Clarkson, the only fancy gun handler in Saskatchewan, spin that pistol. He may even show us some tricks with his whip!

Dirt Hills Archeological Tour

Attend this u-drive guided tour (about 60 kilometres roundtrip) to archaeological sites on private land in the Avonlea area.  First, we visit the Man Effigy to learn about stone formations and local history there. The tour continues to the Dirt Hills to see the Claybank Ceremonial Circle. Visitors are introduced to recently discovered celestial alignments on the summer and winter solstice and learn how this circle is like Stonehenge. Combine this with the tour to the Avonlea Badlands in the morning. And perhaps stay for the barbequed hamburgers and hotdogs at the museum during lunch. Make a full day of it with Avonlea Heritage Museum!

Night Photography with Colin Chatfield

Learn about taking photographs at night with famous Saskatchewan photographer Colin Chatfield. This 90 minute class will explain the process of night photography for only $35.  After an hour supper break, join us for a tour to the Avonlea Badlands to catch the sunset and some moonlight.

Avonlea Badlands Shadows and Moonlight

This tour follows Colin Chatfield's Night Photography Class, so you may want to attend both. After a supper break, we will meet at the museum before heading to the Avonlea Badlands to catch the sunset and then we will stay for the moonrise and get some night shots. Adults $15, Students $7.50. Bring a camera capable of long exposures, a tripod and a flashlight or headlamp (preferred). You must be able to carry your gear 2 kilometers.
